Q: What kind of family do you have?
A: I have 3 people in my family. My husband Miguel is from El Salvador. We have a daughter, Talia
Q: Tell us more about Talia.
A: She is two and a half years old. She is bilingual as both English and Spanish are used at home.
Q: Where did you grow up and where did you go to school?
A: I grew up in St. James. I graduated from John Taylor Collegiate and then attended Brandon University to study music as a clarinet player.
Q: How do you spend your free time? Any hobbies or interests?
A: I spend my free time entertaining my toddler . . . she’s potty training so our world revolves around the potty for now! In my rare adult time I like walking, reading, cooking with friends, and cross-stitch, or playing board and card games.
Q: Do you have any favorite TV programs or favorite books?
A: I’m a fan of “CSI” and “Criminal Minds”. My guilty pleasure is the reality/dance shows. I’m an avid reader but it’s hard to find time to read for myself. Right now my favorite book is “Sleepy Bears” by Mem Fox.
Q: What kind of things do you dislike?
A: I dislike living far away from my family and when there’s not enough hours in the day!
Q: Where did you work before you came here? Did you have any other interesting jobs in the past?
A: I worked as a teacher in Norway House. One of the most interesting jobs I’ve had would be my time as a musician in the army reserve.
Q: If you weren't working here, what would you want to be doing instead?
A: If I wasn’t working here, I’d want to be spending time with family travelling. We like road trips!
Q: What do you like and not like about your job here at IHMS?
A: I like that I get to work with so many welcoming staff and students. I don’t like that we don’t have more books.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you like to go?
A: England / Scotland / Ireland on a castle tour or Ghana to learn drumming.
Q: What is your biggest accomplishment so far in life?
A: The birth of my daughter and raising a well adjusted, intelligent and humorous child so far!
Q: What would you like to accomplish in the future?
A: I would like to have a full time teaching job. Eventually, I’d like to get my masters as well.
Q: What is something interesting about yourself that most people don’t know?
A: I used to have “pet” worms. I kept red wrigglers for composting. I also had a husky who had a knack for finding trouble. Once, she got a barbed fish hook stuck in her lip. Another time, she got a trap caught on her paw.
Q: What would you say are your best qualities?
A: I’m pretty patient and pretty good at adapting to change.
Q: If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be?
A: Learner.
