The 100th day of school at IHMS for the 2009-10 school year occurred on Friday, February 19, 2010. This may not be important news to most people, but for the grade 1 to grade 3 students, “100” is a big number! So the downstairs teachers devised various activities to give the grade 1-3 students a more concrete idea of how big “100” really is. Here are some of the activities the students participated in: Grade 1: The grade 1 students made 100 Day hats. They also read 100 day stories and drew a picture of what they thought they’d look like when they were 100 years old. In addition, they worked on a math booklet and counted by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s to 100.
Grade 2: The grade 2 students made 100 Day hats, and built things with 100 objects. They also brought in collections of 100 things.
Grade 3: The grade 3’s listened to a variety of 100 Day stories. They also brought in 100 Day collections (such as Q-Tips, noodles, buttons, and beach shells) to display and share. In addition, they completed a variety of Math counting exercises and were awarded certificates for the 100th day of school.
