Immaculate Heart of Mary School,
formerly St. Nicholas School,
celebrating 100 years in the year 2005!

Immaculate Heart of Mary School (formerly St. Nicholas School) has stood as a living monument of love, dedication and selflessness to the Ukrainian community in Winnipeg for the past 100 years. It continues to offer a very high standard of education with a special concern for the Ukrainian Catholic faith and culture.

The school has experienced a remarkable 100 years; from a small hall on the corner of Selkirk and McGregor, to the basement of the old St. Nicholas Church, to a school building constructed with the generous assistance of Archbishop Langevin of St. Boniface, and finally to its present facility on the corner of Flora and McKenzie. The school’s history has been supported by the extraordinary efforts of certain groups who have been a part of the school since 1905:

  • the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate who have served the school for the entire 100 year history with unmatched dedication,
  • the Basilian Fathers who continue to give of their time and spirituality, and
  • concerned students, staff, parents and friends who have worked diligently at projects in support of the school.

In honour of this special milestone a Centennial Anniversary Celebration will be taking place October 7-9, 2005. The plans for this Celebration are well underway.

All alumni and present members of the school are invited
to be involved in the celebration preparations.
